A Melbourne man has been compensated more than $1 million after sustaining serious injuries at a play centre for children.

Having noticed that the signage surrounding the play area encouraged parents to ‘accompany children at all times’, the man attempted to assist his crying daughter on the equipment and subsequently fell more than 3 metres from a failing platform.

The injured party told the court that staff members apologised after the incident and admitted that the equipment’s state of disrepair had led to multiple falls.

The then-owner of the business denied this admission.

Nevertheless, the court found that the man was entitled to damages arising from his severe injuries and the past and future economic loss he had suffered.
