Nose-to-tail motor vehicle accidents accounted for almost a third of all accidents last financial year, according to statistics released by a major Australian insurance provider.

Drawn from over 360,000 Australian crashes over the 12 months, the statistics have also identified driver distraction as the leading cause of accidents.

With the NSW Government’s growing push to curb mobile phone usage behind the wheel, these revelations come as little surprise.

A recent NRMA study indicated that drivers who were engaged with mobile usage were at four-times-higher risk of an accident.

However, statistics directly linking the rise in ‘rear-ending’ accidents to mobile usage or other causes of distraction are scarce due to under-reporting.

If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, it’s important you are aware of your rights and entitlements.
