Your initial consultation with a lawyer can be one of the most important meetings you will have with them. It is a first meeting which will let you both know whether you are the right fit and can work together. Here are 10 tips to make sure you get the most out of it:

  1. Do your research; especially on the lawyer you want to represent you.
  2. Write down questions you really need answered so you don’t forget to ask them.
  3. Know your case; be able to answer simple questions relating to your own circumstances. The more detail you can provide, the more you will get out of your consultation!
  4. Bring paperwork; you may not love it but we do. Relevant paperwork provides us with knowledge of your case and we can provide you with advice which is more tailored to you. The more the better!
  5. Take notes! There’s often an overwhelming amount of information to take in, and although we will confirm our advice in writing after the consultation, you’re allowed to take notes!
  6. Know what you want; if you know what you want out of your case, we can discuss your goals.
  7. Listen; you are there to get advice and it’s important you pay attention to what they have to say.
  8. Bring a support person; if it makes you feel more comfortable.
  9. Relax! All the information you provide us is confidential.
  10. Be prepared; this one is self-explanatory!
