Newcastle Courthouse is providing a new service to any clients that identify as Indigenous. There are now two Aboriginal Client & Community Support Officers available to assist defendants, victims and their families on a range of matters.

The Support Officers can explain the process of court, assist with completing forms and liaise between defendants and legal representatives, in addition to a range of other support services. Although they cannot provide legal advice or represent clients in court, they can refer clients to legal services that can.

The Support Officers can also assist clients with other issues impacting why they may be before the court, such as housing issues, family law matters and debt recovery action.

All of these services are free for Indigenous clients.
