Initial Legal Consultation
One on one with an expert
What is it?
The initial consultation meeting is a meeting with one of our expert lawyers that occurs after your initial contact with the firm. The consultation can be anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more, depending on the type and complexity of your legal issue. At the conclusion of the meeting, your lawyer may be able to indicate a management plan or options, or in some cases they may require more information before finalising their advice.
What does it cost?
We do offer a fixed cost for the initial legal consultation. The type of matter and its complexity can influence the scope and purpose of an initial consultation meeting – so our legal services team do need a broad overview of your matter before they can provide you with the relevant fixed cost. If you would like a quote, please get in touch with us!
How does it work?
Prior to your initial consultation meeting, you will receive general information relevant to your matter along with a checklist of information and documents that you will need to bring. We also ask you to complete a new client form in order to provide some general information about you and your matter.
If you come along to our office for the meeting, arrive a bit early. Reception will set you up with a refreshment and take your payment prior to the meeting.
Your solicitor may meet you alone, but will generally bring another member of the team to assist. This helps us maximise the effectiveness and quality of the initial meeting.
What is the objective of an initial consultation?
The objective of the initial consultation is to understand your legal issue and provide you with a view of your options. At the conclusion of the meeting, your lawyer may be able to indicate a management plan or options, or in some cases they may require more information before finalising their advice. They will confirm when you will receive formal written advice in regards to your matter. The advice you receive will form the basis of whether you proceed, or not, with your matter and with Burke & Mead Lawyers.
There are no additional costs and no ongoing obligations associated with your fixed cost initial consultation meeting.
Lawyers are bound by strict guidelines regarding Conflicts of Interest, so after the initial consultation meeting our team will ensure that there are no legal conflicts before proceeding.
How to make the most of your initial consultation?
The initial consultation serves two purposes – it enables the solicitor to determine the nature of your issue, so that they can provide advice about your best course of action. The second and very important purpose is for you to determine whether the solicitor has the skills and experience to offer you the best advice – and is someone you can work with.
“I was recommended to this firm by my surgeon after my workcover claim was denied. All the staff I encouraged were wonderfully helpful and supportive throughout the dispute process, however it was Karlo who dealt with the most who I have the most praise for. He was very helpful throughout the process answering all of my questions and ensuring that everything went smoothly. I couldn’t be happier. Thanks very much to Karlo and the team for getting me a great outcome.”
